South African singing legend Miriam Makeba, who was forced into exile due to her outpoken anti-apartheid views, died of a heart attack.  Kevin Cogill, the blogger who was arrested for posting tracks from the upcoming Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy, agreed to plead guilty.  Michael Stipe has designed a polo shirt for Lacoste.  A biopic based on the life of Jeffy Garcia is reportedly in the works.  Santogold is now going by the name Santi after being threatened with legal action by an artist named Santo Gold.  Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell died at the age of 62.  A woman who was rejected for American Idol was found dead outside the home of Paula Abdul of an apparent suicide.  Satellite radio stations XM and Sirius merged.  The next New York Dolls album will be produced by Todd Rundgren, who produced their debut album 36 years ago.  A copy of The White Album numbered 0000005 is up for auction on eBay.  Folk singer Odetta is in a New York hospital with kidney failure.
