Music Stuff Round-Up: 11.02 – 11.08

Def Jam Executive VP Shakir Stewart commited suicude.  Testimony opened in the murder retrial of Phil Spector.  Peruvian singer Yma Sumac died of cancer.  Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is in a coma after a car accident in CA.  Jimmy Carl Black, drummer and “the indian of the group” in Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention also died of cancer.  Frank Navetta, founding member of the Descendents, died after a short illness.  Ray Davies announced that the Kinks are writing new material together.  Missing Persons frontwoman Dale Bozzio was charged with animal cruelty after neighbors found several sick and dead cats in her home.  An arrest warrant was issued for Mos Def in Las Vegas after he allegedly got into an altercation with a photographer.  Jamaican music legend Byron Lee died of cancer as well.  Hall & Oates are suing their publisher for allegedly not protecting the rights to their 1982 hit ‘Maneater.’  Come announced they’ll be reuniting for a performance at the Tanned Tin Festival in Spain.
